Tatev Chakhian

About the poet:

Tatev Chakhian is an Armenian poet, translator and visual artist, born in 1992 in Yerevan, Armenia.
She had graduated from the faculty of Cultural Anthropology at Yerevan State University, then got a degree in International Relations at AMU in Poland.
In 2016 she published her first volume of poetry titled “unIDentical”, which was nominated for the 2018 European Poet of Freedom Literary Award and got published in Polish. Her poetry has been translated into English, German, Polish, Czech, Persian, Macedonian, Dutch, Spanish, Bengali, Turkish, etc. and has been published worldwide.
Chakhian translates and promotes Polish and Iranian contemporary poetry, as well as authors from English and Russian.

| ՏԱՂ ԹԱՐԳՄԱՆՉԱՑ |

Նախ նրանք թարգմանում են մարմինդ,
հետո՝ բանաստեղծություններդ,
վերջապես՝ լքում են մի պատահական առավոտ
քեզ թողնելով ծանոթ բառիդ առաջ
անճանաչելիորեն մերկ,
անօգնական ու տագնապած,
մեկը, որ անծանոթ լեզվով խոսող քաղաքում
հարձակված շանը
չգիտի ո՞նց սաստել։

| ODE TO THE TRANSLATORS |

First, they translate your body,
then your poems,
finally, they depart on an accidental morning
leaving you unrecognizably naked
in front of your own words,
leaving you worried and helpless,
as the one who doesn’t know
how to calm down a barking dog
in a foreign-speaking city.
