Hampi ranked second in New York Times’s “52 places to go in 2019”

New York Times has published a list of 52 places to go in 2019. Hampi ranked second in the list after Puerto Rico which ranked first. Hampi is the only place from India to be enlisted there. An excerpt from NYT – “At the height of the Vijayanagar Empire in the 16th century, Hampi thrived as one of the largest and richest cities in the world. Its architectural legacy lives on in the southwestern state of Karnataka with over 1,000 well-preserved stone monuments, including Hindu temples, forts and palaces.”

Karnataka tourism department is extremely happy with this news. They have recently introduced a direct flight to Ballari from Bangalore and Hyderabad. Ballari is only 61 kilometers away from Hampi. Travellers can avail direct buses or train from Bangalore to Hospet which is 12 kilometers away.

Hampi is already popular among foreign bag-packers and recently it has attracted local tourists as well.
